The End of the Line – Logitech has decided to get out of the programmable remote control biz, even though there is a thriving need for these devices. Not sure who convinced them to bail, but they are wrong. The good news is that they still support the online Setup tool called My Harmony, and that is the heart of this system. This device came in like a brand new unit, with the plastic covers over the display and front panel, no sign of previous use. It is working great on our fourth cable box. These remotes allow you to set the components to be controlled up by just entering the make and model of the TV, DVD, cable box etc and as long as it is supported (virtually all modern devices are) the remote works as well as the OEM version. And, it allows you to program complex functions like turning on the TV, setting it to the right input, turning on the DVD player, turning on the stereo and setting up for Watch Movie, as we call it!

Difficult transition from an older Harmony 550 – My old Harmony 550 owed an out of date control software incompatible with the New 665. Even though within the old software was a button suggesting one touch transition to the new 665. Ultimately, I downloaded the newer operating software (My Harmony) made the transition by importing my equipment specs from the old software by care fully reading the sparse information provided. Next was software confusion in names of ports. Once corrected, all worked well.

Forget My Negative Review – I bought this Logitech remote (renewed), set it up, and hoped that our problems with remote controls were gone. Instead, the exact same problems continued to drive us nuts. Over a few days, I went through four other remotes, but they all were loaded with problems, buttons not working, devices not turning off or on, and on and on. A couple of nights ago, as I thought over the continuing nightmare of bad remotes, it hit me that it is unlikely that all 5 remotes had gone bad. I began looking for some other answers for the problems. After rebooting the cable box and moving the router and modem from where my son had placed them, about six inches from the box, our TV watching has returned to a simple and smooth stage. I returned the renewed Logitech Harmony remote and got a prompt refund from Amazon, but I regret that I gave it an undeserved bad review. If you are needing a new remote control, I recommend that you consider the renewed remotes.

This remote can be programmed to operate multiple devices, and change important routing settings, all with one push of a button. The need for that convenience only increases if you have additional streaming devices like we do for Amazon and YouTube TV (Roku stick). Without a remote like this, we’d have at least five remotes sitting around on our coffee table and one would need an engineering degree to operate the system (which I am but my wife most definitely is not). This remote greatly simplifies our life…….when it hasn’t ‘forgotten’ where it left off.
