It is time to cut the cable. – I live in a suburb quite far from the city and many of the broadcast station antennas. I purchased the GE 29884 antenna a couple of weeks ago from Amazon. Along with the antenna, I purchased a PCT 4 Port Cable TV/HDTV/Internet amplifier (model PCT-MA2-4P) just in case I need it. I have been trying to “cut the cable” and stop paying expensive cable TV fees for even local basic television stations. In addition to the fees, my cable company switched to a system requiring cable TV boxes that you rent from them for $6/month per box. I have tried other powered indoor antennas and have had miserable experiences with them. Few channels could be scanned and the picture quality was dismal, or heavily pixelated, especially in the daytime hours. The few stations that I could pick up were often unwatchable. So back to cable I went.

Worth every penny! – This antenna gets me 68 channels with perfect reception, even though the FCC website lists most as only having a “fair” signal at my house. I found that it doesn’t matter much on how precise the aiming is, as long as it’s generally pointing in the direction of the signal source (for me, most broadcast antennae are about 40 miles away).

    3. T. K (verified owner)

Needed preamplifier – It’s quite some distance for this antenna and needed to be moved a few times by hand to get most channels. I was having problems with just the antenna and bought a preamplifier and added a ground to the outside nut of the cable since the preamplifier didn’t have a spot. A also upgraded the cable and tightened the coupler inside since the one cable wasn’t long enough. I also added a signal filter. So far, the neighbor said he hasn’t had to rescan channels in a while.

    4. E. H (verified owner)

Tons of channels – I’m renting, so I clamped it to a satellite dish bracket that was already there. Got a lot of interference from the nearby electrical panel, so ran 50′ of quad shield RG11 cable (PHAT Satellite, ASIN B0793DBLG9) directly from the TV to the antenna. I’m 25 miles south of Kansas City and now all the OTA channels are perfectly clear.

    5. L. H (verified owner)

Went from 25 to 84 channels with this antenna – I decided to cut the cord and stopped my cable TV service. I first bought one of those flat, white, rectangular (about 12″x5″) desktop antennas, which I decided was pure junk with tons of false advertising in its Amazon listing. I found that I could actually get more channels with a plain rabbit-ear antenna. I got 25 channels with the rabbit ears, but none of the PBS stations came through and the ABC stations were very weak and pixelated most of the time. So I decided to buy this antenna and install it in the attic. Assembly was easy. Some reviewers complained about the small font size of the owner’s manual, but I didn’t have problems reading it. As a bonus, the instructions were in understandable English, not Chinese translated into awkward English. I had to run a coaxial cable from the attic through the wall of a 2nd floor bedroom closet down to the first floor family room, from where I could distribute the signal to multiple other TVs. When I ran a new channel scan with this antenna, I got 85 channels! The picture quality is beautiful, including PBS and ABC. I’m very happy with this purchase.

Putting an antenna on your roof is not the easiest thing – It comes completely disassembled so there’s a lot of little parts to put together. I am about 20 miles from the towers in Philly, and it won’t pick up low VHF at that distance, so there are 1 or 2 channels i can’t get. If you’ve never put up an antenna outside, It’s a lot of work routing all the cables and connecting a ground. Plan on a full day and a trip to home depot. But, I’m cutting the cable, and this does get a bazillion channels with very stable reception. And it feeds 2 televisions, via a splitter.
